MORNINGS

Yesterday, I
looked to the west.
Snow moon hung full
in the topmost branches
of quickening trees.
I looked to the east,
sun still far from rising
in a clear winter sky.
Crow came spread-winged
to settle at the top
of the pine at roadside.
Folded himself together
befor calling once, twice
three times.
No other bird in site,
only trees and moon.

This morning, moon
among the branches,
no longer quite as full,
is veiled.
