Birds came to bathe
Canary came, and the robin
the grosbeak came
and assorted little brown birds.
It was fun to watch their fun.
They sprinkled up the drops,
paused to hop onto the big stone
or fly into the apple tree,
a moment or two they stayed,
shaking feathers and tails,
before taking that second dip.
When the weeds grew high
the little birds were hidden,
their bath time private
but I could see sunlit drops
splashing high, like a hidden fountain.
We brought in the camera,
connected it to the big screen
excited to see our visitors.
Frame after frame slid by,
breezy trees and lovely clouds,
moonlit nighttime scenes.
Something fluffy that we
could not identify
and then, — a bird’s head,
and a second
and we waited
but nothing more.
The camera was not set in the
right position.
Oh well!!
